Precise and state-of-the-art
Liver surgery is one of the most demanding surgical disciplines in soft tissue surgery. Every intervention on the central metabolic organ requires high precision as damage to the four vascular trees can have fatal consequences for the person being operated on. For patients with colorectal metastases, liver resection or partial liver resection is often the only hope of recovery. With a proportion of 75% these metastases are the main indication for surgical interventions on the liver in Europe and the USA. In Asia and Africa, liver resections are predominantly performed to treat hepatocellular carcinoma. In this indication, the cirrhotic state of the liver poses particular surgical challenges.
High blood loss is one of the greatest complications in surgical interventions to the liver. The use of new technologies such as the clamp-crush technique, water jet – or ultrasonic dissection means less haemorrhaging and more safety for the patient during liver surgery.
Advantage of ultrasonic dissection: selective approach
Ultrasonic dissection allows a particularly delicate, precise transection of the parenchyma without considerable haemorrhaging. The big advantage of ultrasonic dissection is the selective transection of the parenchyma. Söring’s ultrasonic dissectors employ the cavitation effect of the ultrasound in a particular frequency range, which disintegrates the liver parenchyma while leaving the connective tissue structures of vessels, nerves and bile ducts undamaged. This selective approach offers a range of advantages.
Generally less blood loss and thus:
- Improved view of the operating site for the surgeon
- Improved intraoperative stability of the patient
- Quicker recovery times
- Lower costs e.g. no blood reserves are used
Safe dissection and thus:
- Less risk, even in the face of special challenges such as a cirrhotic liver
- Easier handling for the surgeon and thus fewer signs of fatigue
Multifunctional tissue coagulation
Selective dissection and safe coagulation go hand-in-hand in a surgical intervention on the liver. The contact-free, high frequency operated coagulation is one of the gentlest and most precise means to safely sealing vessels. Söring offers a portfolio of bipolar forceps precisely tailored to your needs for exact, restricted, vessel preserving tissue coagulation.
The Söring bipolar forceps allow a coagulation effect which does not affect the nearby nerves, blood vessels or tissue. They can be applied multifunctionally for both spot and surface coagulation without the formation of necroses on the resected surface.
The Söring NON-STICK bipolar irrigation forceps offer a range of advantages e.g.:
- Integrated irrigation channel ensures clean, clear operating field
- No additional assistance required for irrigation
- Quick, convenient working as there is no need to clean the forceps during the operation (NON-STICK effect)
- Multifunctional working without handpiece changes. Both precise spot coagulation and rapid surface coagulation possible
- Long service life and precision guarantee thanks to high quality equipment (solid sterling silver tips)
